These photos were taken at Standen House πŸ― in the East Sussex countryside 🌳.  Mummy took the photos πŸ“· - and I love the combination of the vintage Alice & Co red dress πŸ‘—β€οΈ and Orla Kiely umbrella πŸŒ‚with the arts and crafts house and garden 🌲🏠.Standen House 🏯 was completed in 1894 for the Beale family.  Philip Webb was the architect commissioned to lead the project, and the idea was to build a house that looked as though it had always been there 🏰.  It was constructed using local materials and traditional construction methods πŸ”¨ following Arts and Crafts movement.  Webb incorporated the medieval farm buildings 🏑already on the site, as well as drawing on them and the Sussex vernacular and surrounding landscapes for inspiration πŸ‘¨πŸ’‘.  Although the design was influenced by the past, the house was built as an up-to-date modern home with central heating πŸ”₯ and electricity πŸ’‘.The garden 🏑 was very much part of the design of the house following William Morris's thought that 'a house should be clothed by it's garden' πŸ πŸ‘—.Alice xxxPhotos by Sarah Bray
