Standen House in a Red Dress
These photos were taken at Standen House π― in the East Sussex countryside π³. Mummy took the photos π· - and I love the combination of the vintage Alice & Co red dress πβ€οΈ and Orla Kiely umbrella πwith the arts and crafts house and garden π²π .Standen House π― was completed in 1894 for the Beale family. Philip Webb was the architect commissioned to lead the project, and the idea was to build a house that looked as though it had always been there π°. It was constructed using local materials and traditional construction methods π¨ following Arts and Crafts movement. Webb incorporated the medieval farm buildings π‘already on the site, as well as drawing on them and the Sussex vernacular and surrounding landscapes for inspiration π¨π‘. Although the design was influenced by the past, the house was built as an up-to-date modern home with central heating π₯ and electricity π‘.The garden π‘ was very much part of the design of the house following William Morris's thought that 'a house should be clothed by it's garden' π π.Alice xxxPhotos by Sarah Bray
